Smoking, vaping, and the use of tobacco or cannabis products are NOT allowed on school property, at school functions, or within 100 feet of school buildings. If students are found violating the District’s Code of Conduct regarding vaping or smoking, disciplinary consequences will follow, which may include suspension.
But in addition, know that vaping has serious health risks—addiction, harmful chemicals, and lasting health effects.
What’s Really Inside a Vape?
- Vapes can contain up to 70 different chemicals, some of which form only when heated.
- Many vapes contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance that harms developing brains.
- Poorly made vape pens can release toxic metals like lead, which are inhaled directly into the lungs.
- Vape aerosol can include formaldehyde, acrolein, and acetaldehyde—chemicals known to damage lung tissue.
Did You Know?
- More than 1.6 million U.S. youth currently use e-cigarettes.
- Over 7.8% of high school students and 3.5% of middle school students are vaping.
- More than 1 in 4 teen vapers use e-cigarettes daily, indicating nicotine dependence.
- Some e-cigarettes contain as much nicotine as 20 cigarettes in a single vape pod.
