Turning Boxes into Skyscrapers: Grade 6 Students Make Math Come to Life

After wrapping their boxes, students calculated the surface area of each “building.” Then, once they added windows, they used arrays to determine the space the windows occupied and subtracted that from the total surface area to find an accurate final measurement.

It was a creative way to practice problem-solving and show just how engaging math can be. Who knew math could be this much fun?

Santa's Ramp Project Soars to New Heights

Riccardi Grade 1 teachers Jennifer Wade and Stefanie Colclough guided students through a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) project focused on problem solving and creativity. Students built sleighs using cardboard, pipe cleaners, tape, tinfoil, popsicle sticks, and other recycled materials, then designed ramps of different heights to see whose sleigh would travel the farthest.
